Tor Anglia sold for recycling in China
DFDS Tor Line has sold its oldest ro-ro vessel, the Tor Anglia, for recycling in China for an undisclosed sum. The vessel is currently discharging its last cargo in Dubai and will shortly afterwards sail to China. Together with DNV, DFDS Tor Line has carried out a Green Passport inspection for the vessel, providing information about toxic substances on board.
“There were only a few items that could be potentially toxic on board the vessel”, says Gert Jakobsen, head of information at the DFDS Group.
Tor Anglia will be recycled at the facility at Jiangmen Yinhu, where A P Møller-Mærsk has recycled several container carriers in a project with the Chinese authorities, and over the last couple of years developed an environmentally safe plant, which is also safe for the workers doing the dismantling work.
The Tor Anglia has sailed under the DFDS flag since 1988. It was delivered from Paul Lindenau Werft at Kiel in October 1977 for Swedish Gulf Line AB as the Merzario Gallia.
