Port of Hong Kong 2009 volume of 14.6 percent down

Figures from the Hong Kong Marine Department show that the port handled 20.9 million TEU in 2009, a decrease of 14.6 percent from 24.5 million in 2008, but December's figures showed a three percent increase to 1.8 million TEU from the same month the previous year.

Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority reported a 13.5 percent decrease in container movement in 2009, having handled 25.9 million TEU compared with 29.9 million TEU in 2008. December container volume expected a year-on-year increase of six percent to 2.3 million TEU.
