Maersk Line offers free transport of UN aid to Haiti
A P Møller-Mærsk has donated free transportation for UN aid to Haiti. Maersk Line is providing two craned container vessels for aid delivery to Port au Prince. The cranes on the vessels are well needed as all the container cranes in Port au Prince have been damaged by the earthquake. Maersk Line has also agreed to take care of the storage and logistics in the port area in Port au Prince.
“We contacted UN already last week and offered our contribution to the people of Haiti”, says Michael Storgaard, spokesman for A P Møller-Mærsk.
Maersk Line and A P Møller-Mærsk have provided free transportation in other special circumstances. At the outbreak of the Gulf War in the early 1990s, the USA was offered free transportation of war materiel on board Maersk Line vessels.
